In addition to skills in reading and writing, a basic prerequisite for success in a profession is mathematical competence. This is especially important for modern occupations in the areas of natural sciences and technology or Information Technology. Deficits in mathematical skills result in a shortage of qualified personnel. On a regional level, the lack of skilled labor also limits opportunities for economic growth, and thus for modern economic development of a region.
The MaP project will be an ongoing support program tailored to Schleswig-Holstein and Region of Southern Denmark. Based on the unique transnational merger of the regions’ central educational institutions, its goal is the development and integration of successful concepts meant to reach beyond country-based educational policy.
A broad spectrum of students of all ages can be reached by targeting math instructors in various teaching environments. In doing so, the MaP project focuses on formal training and further education programs which, in cooperation, can be developed and applied internationally and integrated into educational policy.
Integration of theoretical and vocational aspects should lead to a lasting improvement of mathematics education, which will lead to an increase in qualified personnel in the Syddanmark-Schleswig-K.E.R.N. region. This professionalization of continuing education in the education sector will in turn create and promote new job opportunities for those further developing the field of continuing education.
