The shift to electric cars makes it possible to supply the transport sector with energy from “green electricity“. It also makes it possible to reduce air pollution and noise burden from internal combustion engines.  The connection of the vehicle batteries to the electricity network makes a buffer which can contribute the balance of production and consumption of electricity. Therefore it is expected that a massive increase in electro mobility will gain a foothold on the market.

Schleswig-K.E.R.N. and South Denmark have strong competences and market positions within Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Energy Management. Also, there is a potential for horizontal spread to the increasing market for electrical vehicles. To take advantage of these opportunities, there is a need of focused and common German/Danish efforts to develop specialized knowledge and support of the business activities. This implies needs for improved competences within mechatronics (the combination of mechanical technology, electrical and electronic engineering and computer science), effect electronic, (energy transformation) and energy handling which can support the development of new technology. Such a focused effort related to electro mobility can promote and strengthen already existing regional developing initiatives related to mechatronics and energy effectiveness.

Therefore, the vision of the eMOTION project is that Region Schleswig-K.E.R.N. and South Denmark becomes the leading supplier to the business of electro mobility through development, manufacturing and sales of solid, reliable and energy effective components and systems within selected market niches.
